Stephen's Story

I created MDesignTECH in September 2011, when many Architectural Technicians and technologists such as I were struggling to develope skills and build upon experience in a difficult economic climate. At that time architectural firms were laying off staff, as clients were losing the will to progress with developments or even consider new projects. Architectural firms were refusing to accommodate those still acquiring qualifications or seeking to improve upon them and gain experience as many were simply trying to maintain their businesses and ensure their survival.
I had fortunately acquired the necessary skills to complete planning and building control applications prior to the 2008 economic collapse, thanks to a small firm run by a couple of Architectural Consultants operating out of an office unit in Crondall. I left their firm in 2007, and despite struggling to maintain employment during the time that followed, I nevertheless managed to build upon the skills I had acquired and eventually found work where I could collaborate with structural engineers, building surveyors and other construction professionals.

Today I operate as both a sole trader and an employee for a building surveying firm elsewhere in Surrey. I have experience with residential, commercial, educational, care sector and ecclesiastical developments. Though these days I am predominantly focussed on residential and educational projects.
